Trainer for the Day
Do you have an idea for a killer workout? Do you dream of setting up cones and directing the masses through a challenging series of exercises? Would you love to return the favor to {insert your favorite trainer’s name here} by handing him/her a large number of {insert your least-favorite exercise here}?
Here’s your chance! Bid your best offer to become Trainer for the Day on November 11, 2011. Here are the guidelines:
- Place your bids in the Comments section of this post. Only the bids placed here will be considered official bids.
- Bidding starts at $5 and will be accepted in $5 increments.
- Bidding will begin November 1, and will close at 9 am on November 9, 2011.
- The winning bidder(s) will be announced on November 10, 2011.
- The winning bidder(s) will be Trainer(s) for the Day on November 11, 2011.
- You can pool your money with up to two (2) other campers to increase your bid.
All donations will go directly to Piedmont Park Conservancy or Get Grounded Foundation — the winning bidder’s choice. And, since your check will be written directly to a non-profit, you will be able to write it off!
So pull out your check book and your whistle… the highest bidder will call the shots!

Five dollar bid, now five, now five, will ya’ give me five? Who’ll give me five?
Biddadollar biddadollar biddadollar, do I hear $5? YES!
Good to see everyone and thanks for the pep talk from Andrew this morning! Minus traveling for work (and week of thxgiving) I plan on being there everyday this month. Next stop.…warm clothes division at REI!
Personal note…stay away from Mary Ellen and Daniel on the weekends! Youth is on their side…not mine!
That was a SMOKIN’ FAST pt run today! Nice job!
Shawn, I agree with the pep talk sentiment — thanks, Andrew!
Shawn, I do NOT agree with the personal note. I have no idea what you’re talking about. I was angelic this weekend. Didn’t you see my wings?
M.E.
Can you still bid if you skipped this morning’s workout? I will be there tomorrow. I needed to sleep in today though.
I bid $20.
Great job today booties! I enjoyed working out with Group 2 and running the loop with Kate (who posted an awesome time!). I also saw some great and strong finishes by Bridget, Browning, Marcia, Rick and LeAnn. Wow, we have some sprinters who left it all out there on the loop this morning!
Still sulking Jeff?

Link to photos from Sunday morning’s cheer section. Huge thank yous to Jorgie, Terresa, Julie, Jayme, Brandon and Brandon’s son for adding to the fun and the numbers. The judge counted every single person and scrutinized our costumes and signs. We are still awaiting the final total but raised at least $6500!!!
It looks like Emily just raised the bar to $6500. Do we have $6505?
Jeff — your bid has to be for a specific trainer you want to do the ‘hell-out’ (look at the fun you can have with ‘workout’!).
Andrew — my goal for November is to return to the early arrival times I used to have in May and June, I hate to miss your motivational speeches.
Today’s PT test is the same one I did my first month of BC4C in May. My time on the run on May 3 was 8:10, my time on the run today was 6:30. I’m ok with that…for now.
I like Julie’s idea, but to be clear, the winner bidder(s) will be responsible for managing the workout for the entire boot camp on 11−11−11. So the workout could be FUN. It doesn’t have to HELLish. But you are certainly allowed to call out specific trainers to do extra work if you believe it is warranted.
So, Emily has the highest bid at $6500? J/K
Looks like Jeff is the leader with $20.
Twenty dollar bid, now twenty, now twenty, will ya’ give me twenty-five? Who’ll give me twenty-five?
Julie, that 6:30 is awesome. Looking forward to lowering it at the end of the month.
I can’t believe the winning bid is only $20 so far. I think Yomi would easily want to pay $100 to issue Andrew 50 burpees for being too early to bootcamp.
I am still sulking Leigh!
sooo excited about kate’s club earning that money!
those marathoners looked great, esecially since it was about 40 degrees outside. i thought long and hard about them when i was warm and toasty eating brunch at west egg. has anyone heard from karen!?
great pt loop, julie! you will rock the serenbe!
i am going for perfect attendence this month too! so that makes me, chris, jenn, and (trouble maker)hooker?
ps-rumor has it that the name tag monitor didn’t have one on this morning! burpees???
Terresa, you don’t want to find out what happens to people that start false rumors. It’s even worse than you think… Jorgie will have to pay for any fall-out from these rumors. And then YOU’LL have to deal with Jorgie!
NOT JORGIE!!!!
I bid $30, and I welcome Jeff to pool his money with me to make it $50. Although I misunderstood the ‘Trainer for a Day’ concept at first, now I get it and regardless of the bids, I would love all campers to offer up suggestions for the workout as this is as much an opportunity for us to create a fun workout as it is a chance to make trainers do unthinkably horrible things
Go Julie, that’s the spirit! Folks, we’re up to $50 — who’s got $55?
Pool accepted! And, I think Kate wants to join in as well. First, I assume ALL trainers are required to attend on November 11th — Lauren, please confirm. Second, I assume that there are no other rules or restrictions other than common decency and general bootcamp norms and customs. As trainer for the day, we are also directing the campers too, right? Julie, let us convene a meeting on Monday to strategize.
CLARIFICATIONS:
The winning bidder(s) will act as trainer for the day. They assume all duties of a Trainer, such as: warm-up, cool-down, and leading the workout. They also create the workout.
The winning bidder(s) can request help or advice from the trainers for any portion of the above.
All boot campers and trainers in attendance on 11−11−11 will complete the workout as any normal workout. Just like any other day, most — not all trainers — will be available to attend the workout.
General boot camp norms and customs should be followed.
Feel free to be creative with your workout planning if you intend to “stick it” to any specific trainers.
I’m in with Jeff and Julie.
Jack up our pot to $80!
Wahoo! IT’S ON!
C’mon, Rick, you know you got $20 burning a hole in your pocket to be the boss of one trainer in particular!
That would make an even $100.
Meeting confirmed: Monday, 7 a.m.
Julie,
Rick would have to form his own pool to get to $100, pools are limited to 3 campers.
I’m thinking about raising the stakes and joining the competition. I haven’t worked out the details yet, but the workout would involve 40 minutes and burpees. Come to think of it the details are worked out. Does anyone dare to put the donation out of my reach?
You can’t change the rules AFTER they’ve been set, Leigh! You don’t want to make me angry, you woudln’t like me when I’m angry. (Nor when I’m functioning on 5 hours sleep after a 20 hour work day in Chicago, which will likely be the case on Friday)
Psst, Julie… re-read the last bullet in the post.
However, I’m sure we can bend the rules a bit if it means more $$ for the charities…
But right now, we don’t have much of a bidding war going yet…
